![]() I wasn't aware of surround sound encoding being built into PC video cards these days, but maybe that's because I'm hit with restriction number 2 below, so I can't use HDMI anyway and haven't really wrestled with this. Maybe I'm a bit behind the times, but I haven't been able to get this to work from PC in HDMI (just on a PS3). The processing delay for DDL encoding + decoding is kinda miserable, anyway.īefore we admonish him for not using HDMI, let's first consider two possibilities where this is not a viable solution.ġ)The main use case for DTS connect/DDL, as far as I know, is to encode game sounds into a surround soundspace which can be transferred to your receiver via one digital cable. ![]() The end result was: just be normal and use regular HDMI. ![]() If it works for someone else, I'll probably pick up that card rather than wait for a fix, but looking through Creative's and Asus's forums, they seem to be having the same issues as well despite being based on C-media or homegrown chips. For example, in the sound properties under the "Supported Formats" tab the DTS Audio and Dolby Digital formats work and play a 5.1 test tone even when I'm configured to output 2 channel stereo, but under the Advanced tab if I set the default format to "Dolby Digital Live (5.1 Surround)" and hit test, I get a dialog box that says "Failed to play test tone" and while my computer is in this mode, no audio works. ![]() I'm referring to having the card do the encoding of a 5.1 signal, not just allowing a pass through. I'm curious if anybody else has 5.1 via an optical cable working in windows 10, and what sound card you're using. ![]() I have just one optical cable that goes from the PC to the home theater receiver, and the HDMI output from my video card goes directly to my projector, and my receiver doesn't have any HDMI ports so that's not an option.) (I've got an ALC898 Built into my Intel Motherboard, and had this working under Windows 7. I know that there's issues with getting Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect to work under Windows 10 if you have a Realtek audio chipset that Microsoft has acknowledged. ![]()
